Waist-to-height ratio calculator
Your waist measurement divided by your height: a simple check of how much fat you carry around the middle.
Your ratio
–
–- Half your height
- –
A waist below this keeps the ratio under 0.5.
For adults aged 20 and over. The ratio is a screening measure, not a diagnosis.
Why waist and height
The ratio is a rough guide to fat around the middle. A higher ratio usually means more of it, and that is linked to a higher risk of heart and metabolic disease.
How to measure your waist
Stand straight and breathe out normally. Wrap the tape halfway between your lowest rib and the top of your hip bone, keep it level and snug, and read it without pulling your stomach in.
How it's calculated
Ratio = waist ÷ height
Both in the same units. For example, an 80 cm waist at 175 cm gives 80 ÷ 175 = 0.46. The result is rounded to two decimals.
